If golf courses want to stay in shape they need to do maintenance, you cannot expect to run a course all year long and not have a proper maintenance schedule, I mean, your clientele will suffer as well as your pocket. Unfortunately the following courses have works underway on high season which could means good or bad news depending on the way you see it. Bad news because the course is in bad shape and the golfing experience is less than desirable and good news because you get a great deal, so… its all up to the golfer!
Guavaberry and Los Marlins Golf
These two golf courses are in Juan Dolio, Dominican Republic and are just a few minutes from Santo Domingo. They are quite popular since they are the only courses in the DR that have an unlimited golf package at a very low price. Now they both have started an extensive overhaul of their courses and it’s gonna take some time way into the next year, so if you want to play you will get a bargain but not the best golfing conditions.
Cancun Golf
The oldest course in the Cancun area, situated right in the heart of the hotel strip, has finally started to do some well overdue maintenance, according to them:
We are working hardly on the maintenance of our Golf Course, we are changing the grass to Bermuda in Greens, Fairways and Tees and this week we are sanding the greens… the golf course will be 95% ready by the end of December.
Also stated in their email to us is that they are also planning the opening of the new Puerto Cancun Golf Club which was also under construction for a couple of years now and stopped due to legal issues. Puerto Cancun is located in the adjacent marina development near the town of Cancun, where the hotel strip begins.
So, if you want to take advantage of these bargains give us a call at 1-888-509-1332 or visit us at http://www.TheTeeTimeShop.com and ask for these and other deals.
Golf Rates for the Tangolunda Golf Club in Huatulco Mexico
The Campo de golf de Tangolunda (Tangolunda golf club) – the only golf course in Huatulco – is laid out on a deep but narrow piece of property, as a result there are few instances of holes running parallel to each other. Most holes are bordered by a combination of trees, jungle, ponds and a concrete aqueduct. This mix of trouble elements is often in play on both sides of a hole.

After almost a year in construction and ready to be open to the public, the new Roco-Ki Golf course in Punta Cana is getting a name, The Faldo Legacy Course.
We visited Roco-Ki back in November 2007 and we were very impressed at the project, at that time only 9 holes were ready to play and the rest were still missing some bunkers, tees and greens. For the avid golfer, the incredible 17th, offers obvious inferences to Pebble Beach. The only difference is that the 17th, crafted by Nick Faldo, is followed by an equally spectacular 18th hole, one plays over not one but two ocean inlets, making 17th and 18th two of the most dramatic golf holes in the Caribbean.
We have just received news from our friends at the Varadero Golf Course regarding the status of the course after hurricane Ike.
“We have some threes that fell off and the usual debris, but nothing more serious than that, the golf course should be again in top shape in a couple of days”
We have just received the rates for the White Sand Golf Club (winter 2008 – 2009). The golf club has decided to keep the rates as they are right now at $100 USD per person per round (18-holes) making it the most affordable golf 18-hole course in Punta Cana.
All rounds of golf include: green fee (18-holes), shared cart and local taxes.
The only change in rates was made on the club rentals, they are now brand new Taylormade clubs and it rents for $40 US per set.
With this unlimited golf package at Los Marlins Golf Course you will get a full 7 days of golf (less than $50 USD per day!!!), including shared cart and all local taxes. The first tee time will be guaranteed and the rest of your rounds will have to be reserved locally and subject to availability.
The caddy is mandatory and it will cost you a good $15 USD plus tip per cart per round.
Transportation is also included to the surrounding resorts like: Embassy Suites (on-site), Barcelo Capella, Barcelo Talanquera and Coral Costa Caribe however, if you stay at Coral Hamaca a fee of $40 US will be applied (1 to 8 passangers) for the round-trip transportation.
If you are planning to escape this winter to go golfing, try Los Marlins Golf at Metro Country Club and have a wonderful week filled with unlimited rounds of golf!
Sitting on the cliff’s edge above the Chavon river, La Estancia Golf supplies some spectacular views with the front 9 taking the prize of this magnificent P. B. Dye design course.
Wide fairways, grass bunkers and hollows around the greens makes this a nice touch that represent its own challenge. Greens are very hard and they are difficult to make the ball bite even on short irons.
A short drive near La Romana and close to Casa de Campo, La Estancia Golf is the best alternative for those staying in the Bayahibe area.
With a superb layout and VERY affordable rates (5 rounds of golf goes for $425 USD per person) La Estancia Golf IS the best deal in the area!.
We have recently added the Estrella del Mar Golf Club to our selection of courses. Situated in Mazatlan Mexico, this magnificent course might as well be called Mexico’s Best Kept Secret.
Rated amongst the best golf courses in Mexico, Estrella del Mar boasts a magnificent 7,045 yards 18-hole championship par 72 golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr.
With rates at $75 USD per round per person during low season and $100 USD on high season, the Estrella del Mar Golf Club is the best option for golfers who wants to golf near the ocean in Mexico.

That’s why we have made a small piece on the course.
If you are looking for an affordable round of golf in Punta Cana there’s no course that can beat the White Sands Golf Club.

First… finding out if the golf course had a website, if it was updated or not and then, look for an email or phone then either sending them a little note hoping they would answer and, as the days go by, you get no response. After numerous attempts you decide to contact the golf course by phone to find out that the person on the other end was not the right person or doesn’t understands you and then, waiting in line for the right transfer to the pro-shop etc. while your phone meter is running… sounds familiar?
Well, you’ll need to worry no more! Say goodbye to spending your precious time and money making long distance calls or trying to use your Spanish lessons or sending emails.
At The Tee Time Shop we will take care of all that, we know the people, we’ve been to the golf courses, we have even had a round or two with the golf pros and directors (and a few beers along the way).

Please note that this shuttle service is EXCLUSIVE to The Tee Time Shop clients. The shuttle service is not available if you purchase your rounds locally or through a hotel.

From Cancun to Puerto Aventuras, golfing in the Mayan Riviera is fascinating. With a total of 9 championship courses, one 18-hole-executive course, three 9-hole courses and three signature courses under construction, the Mayan Riviera has a golf course for everyone, from the avid golfer to the week-end warrior!
These are not just golf courses hacked out of the jungle by some local developer, but sculptured courses carefully planned and designed by major names in modern golf course design who have an appreciation for the game and the environment.
The golf courses are distributed in a large area, all of them close to the ocean but only a few of them gets a hole or two near it (due to the expensive cost of beach property), among them we could find Playa Mujeres, Cancun and Hilton Clubs (although they are tecnically inside a lagoon) and El Camaleon Mayakoba. All other courses are inland.
There are a few new additions that are comming our way like the TPC La Roca (Nick Price Design), Puerto Cancun (Tom Weiskopf Design) the Bahia Principe Golf (Robert Trent Jones II) and the Cancun Country Club. As soon as we have any news from these courses we will post them right here.
If you can manage to not be distracted by the spectacular views and focus on your game, golfing in the area will surely be an unforgettable experience. With the PGA signing licensing agreements to play a tournament at the Mayakoba in 2007 (the first money paying PGA tournament ever played in Mexico with a purse of $3.5 million) the Mayan Riviera is soon to be on the world golfing map.
If you are looking to score the best deals in the Mayan Riviera or Cancun Golf Courses check out our golf packages and green fees page. Staying at a Hotel and your rounds of golf are included? Why dont you give us a call or contact us at golf @ theteetimeshop.com to book your tee times in advance though our secure server for only $24.95 CAD plus tax per person per stay!
The Nayar Golf Course Nuevo Vallarta is located on the spectacular beaches of Nuevo Vallarta on what it used to be the Mayan Palace Golf Nuevo Vallarta designed by Jim Limpe.
Now undergoing a major renovation by the Nicklaus Design team, this golf course has currently only 9 holes open. This re-design is part of the strategy of “Albatross Golf Courses” the new management company which is taking control of all golf courses formally operated by Mayan Resorts (Acapulco, Los Cabos, Nuevo Vallarta, Riviera Maya and Rocky Mountain).
Although the course only has 9 holes open due to its renovation, the golf course still offers its visitors a nice challenge.
The Nayar course is expected to open all of its 18 holes this next November 2009.
The Mantarraya Golf Club is a splendid world classic golf course located in the area of the Royal Decameron Beach Resort, Spa and Casino in Farallon, Hato River in the Pacific Coast barely an hour an a half from Panama City
We have compiled different reviews from the internet, most of them praising the Mantarraya Golf Course and the resort where is at.
Excellent golf course only 3 minutes away from hotel. Challenging and a great value at $ 55. You need a reservation in advance and a lot of times are full even though I seemed to be the only one on the course.
– mick1952 from Denver,Co (TripAdvisor Traveler Review)
Mantarraya Course - Hole #2
The 18-hole golf course is outstanding. Challenging, yet enjoyable to play. It’s not on the ocean, but there’s lots of water, nonetheless. The people in the pro shop are helpful and pleasant. The guys golfed twice and the women, once. The cost was $25 (twilight rate), per person. Rentals were either $15 or $25 per set of clubs. The only issue was that a tournament had been booked for 4 days during the week (Monday to Thursday), making the course unavailable on those days until after 2 p.m. (which meant we were golfing in the worst heat of the day). But, other than that, we highly recommend the course.
– Serengeti from Toronto, ON (TripAdvisor Travel Review)
Mantarraya Golf - Putting Range
The golf is fantastic for about $30USD, you get a very good course that’s fun to play. Although I sound crazy saying this, I would recommend a 2pm tee-time, because by then there is a nice breeze, and the course isn’t as hot.
– ChicadelMar form Toronto, ON (TripAdvisor Travel Review)
To book in advance your tee times please contact The Tee Time Shop at golf @ theteetimeshop.com or book directly at our secure online request form.
The Tangolunda Golf Course in Huatulco Mexico can be summed up in one word: Challenging! The course is always in great shape, well watered with not a single brown patch to be seen anywhere. The course is not your typical resort style layout that allows for players to spray the ball widely and still score well. Balls hit wide of the target will be penalized. The course is laid out on a deep but narrow piece of property.
Read 5 reviews from TripAdvisor’s Traveler Reviews for the Tangolunda Golf Club in Huatulco Mexico.
Played the Tangolunda course three times while here. Fair course, with sand typically just in front of the greens. Long par 3’s, 169-179 yards from the white tees. Tight fairways with the occasional large tree right in the center! Ancient ballwashers lacked towels. Your hotel should give you a discount coupon for 20%-30% off green fees.
– ColoradoTallman from Summit County, Colorado (TripAdvisor Traveler Review)
Played this course Jan 2007 … green fees 760 pp + 340 for shared cart ….that makes it $93.00 USD / player. Most of the hotel provide a discount (Las Brisas =30% on green fees only) … with the discount a round will set you back about $82.00 cdn. Go Earley, just before sunrise… that’s the best time.
– 11golfer from newmarket (TripAdvisor Traveler Review)
Not overly difficult but challenging enough for the average golfer. It plays 6800 from the back and has many trees in play. Very few water hazards on the course.
– SecheltBrent from Vancouver B.C. (TripAdvisor Traveler Review)
We played at this golf course last Feb 2004. Really nice course. You can get a little cooler with ice if you buy the water or whatever from the restaurant at the course. Very cheap. The course is well maintained. We rented our clubs, rather than bringing them, and they only cost about $15.00 and were pretty good.

“Create the most exciting championship golf course in Mexico“, was the challenge given to the team of Von Hagge, Smelek and Baril, designers of over 200 of the world’s finest golf courses. The result … a 7,239 yard masterpiece, El Tigre Golf Club at the Paradise Village Resort in Nuevo Vallarta Mexico, this magnificent course features several lakes, a meandering creek and diabolically placed bunkers and swales, framed by the Sierra Madre Mountains in the distance.
While scratch golfers are tested from the championship tees, higher handicappers find a variety of tee placements suitable to their game. Complimenting the golf course is the new 45,000 square-foot Clubhouse complete with cupolas and terraces overlooking the 18th green. The Clubhouse features a spa, terraced restaurant and lounge, golf shop, locker rooms and a “members only” area offering private lockers, massage and other treatments, as well as an exercise room and beauty salon.
The Catalonia Resort in Punta Cana is home of two well maintained golf courses, the Catalonia Caribe Club and the Cabeza de Toro (Bull Head) Golf Course.
While Cabeza de Toro is actually next to the two Catalonia hotels (Catalonia Royal Bavaro and Catalonia Bavaro), Caribe Club is near the new highway that connects Bavaro with the airport. A shutte is offered between the two courses and to and from the Catalonia hotels.
Caribe Club is a flat course that has a nice variation in style of holes with doglegs and up- and down hill fairways. Don’t be discouraged by the narrow fairways of the first 3 holes. The course opens up for the driver later on. There are no cart paths so you drive right onto the course and next to the tees. Greens and tees are in great shape but tees are very small. There are no caddies available but there’s people helping you to fit your bag on the cart. Drinking water is only available at the club house so stock up before you head out. Find a hole-by-hole description here.
Cabeza de Toro features a large amount of water hazards; although the course has only 9-holes it presents a nice challenge due to its narrow fairways. Find a hole-by-hole description here.
These courses are so far the only courses in Punta Cana that offers an Unlimited Golf Package available only through The Tee Time Shop with rates starting at $90 USD per person per day.
This package includes:
Unlimited Golf at the Catalonia Cabeza de Toro (9 hole Golf course), The Catalonia Caribe Golf Club (18 holes) and also the Pitch & Putt (9 holes).
Unlimited Access to Golf Range and Range balls.
Shared Golf Cart.
Local Taxes.
First tee time is confirmed, replay is locally and subjected to availability.
To book this incredible package contact us at golf @ theteetimeshop.com or book directly though our secure online form.
We have had these two exclusive deals for a long time now, and the same question came over and over, can we mix both packages? I mean, they are each at $300 USD per person per week and basically have the same features but, they belong to two different companies so making this package work wasn’t easy but not impossible!
Starting this next Saturday and all through March 2009 you can play both courses for only $499 USD per person per package.
The latest review for El Tigre has been published today, “A challenging, fun test (with teeth) at Paradise Village” is the name of the review by Mike Bailey, senior writer for worldgolf.com.
Here’s an extract:
This a really fun golf course if you’re in fairly good control of your golf swing. Most of the holes are driver friendly.
You’ll also find a good variety of holes, although if you don’t like water hazards this isn’t your course. This is not a golf course you can easily play on the ground, although if you play the forward tees, there are opportunities to do just that – all except the island green par-3 sixth, of course.
If you can hit greens, you’ll have good birdie opportunities because the untradwarf Bermuda greens run very true. This course is also in excellent shape.
El Tigre Golf Club also features what may be the finest clubhouse in Mexico, elegantly Spanish in style, with 45,000 square feet that include a restaurant, lounge, pro-shop, locker room and a European spa.

Ranked among the 10 best golf courses in Mexico, the Playa Mujeres Golf Club is a challenge even for the most experienced player.
This Greg Norman masterpiece is located just seven miles north of Cancun in Quintana Roo, Mexico. The golf course its NOT on the island of Isla Mujeres, there is no need to take a ferry but getting to it could be a little bit of trouble since there are not enough signage from the Cancun hotel zone / strip to the golf course however, any taxi taken from any of the resorts will know for sure how to get there without any hassle.
The closest hotel to the course is the Excellence Resort which is next to the property. Other hotels nearby will be those on the strip close to downtown Cancun.
Jeremy Hall is a professional golf expert who has been working in the Golf Travel Industry for over 20 years and has extensive experience of resorts and courses around the world.
This magnificent new Jack Nicklaus signature golf is right in the border of Cancun and the Mayan Riviera, perfect for anyone staying at either location.
The golf course offers transfers to most of the hotels in the Cancun strip as well as the resorts in the Mayan Riviera all the way down to Tulum. The round of golf at Riviera Cancun also includes the green fee with shared cart and taxes as well as unlimited drinks and food. Meals are also included, you can have anything from the cart that’s going around or order anything from the menu and they will get it to you at the course.
This complex will consist of 2 Championship 18 hole golf courses, one designed by Tom Fazio and the other by Nick Price.
Both will be developed to the standards and requirements of the TPC (Tournament Players Course) network, which will make these two the first golf courses outside of the United States to receive this certification.
The driving range, which will be the largest in Latin America, will occupy an area of 10 hectares and will be constructed to the specifications of the PGA Tour.
A golf academy will also be part of this impressive golf facility.
This golf course complex is currently under construction.
Situated near the new San Jose del Cabo marina, Puerto Los Cabos course provides an extraordinary golf setting that unique to find. The round of golf will take you on a journey through several different landscapes: the picturesque mountain vistas, astonishing ocean dunes and stunning desert golf.
The current combined golf course, the Composite Course, features the Front Nine of the Greg Norman Course and the Back Nine of the Jack Nicklaus Course. Combining the two 9 hole courses will allow guests to experience the difference in design philosophies and enjoy a “sneak-peek” of the future work to come. Never before has work from these great designers been used to create 18 holes.
The future Golf Course at Puerto Los Cabos will consist of 36 championship golf holes, 18 holes designed by Jack Nicklaus (The Marina Course) and the second 18 by Greg Norman (The Mission Course).
Now open to play!
The golf course is open between 8:30am and 5pm, starting Apr 4th, 2009 the course will open until 7pm.
Preventative maintenance is an integral part of successful golf course management. The golf club at Playacar its no exception, this next April 20th, 21st and 22nd the course will undergo schedule maintenance to do some aerification. The course will not be playable during those days and probably the following week.
Golfers view aerification as an inconvenience that takes the greens out of play for a day, pulling cores from the greens and leaving holes that can affect putting for many days before healing. To add insult to injury, aerification is best done in many part of the country during mid-summer, at the height of the playing season and when most greens are in prime condition.
But a golfer needs to understand how important aerification is to producing healthy turf.
Aerification achieves three important objectives. It relieves soil compaction, it provides a method to improve the soil mixture around the highest part of a green’s roots and it reduces or prevents the accumulation of excess thatch.

Please remember that Aerification is a mechanical process that creates more air space in the soil and promotes deeper rooting, thus helping the grass plants stay healthy. In most cases, it’s done by removing ½-inch cores (those plugs you sometimes see near a green or in fairways) from the compacted soil, allowing for an infusion of air and water that brings a resurgence of growth. The spaces are then filled with sand “topdressing” that helps the soil retain air space and makes it easier for roots to grow downward.
Consider also that aerification is merely a short-term disruption that has long-term benefits for the course.
